PHYSICAL SCIENCE STUDY GUIDE

 

  1. An element is one of about 100 basic kinds of matter that make up everything in the universe.

  2. The smallest part of an element is an atom.

  3. Atoms are made of three types of particles called electrons, neutrons and protons.

  4. Electrons have a negative charge, protons have positive charge, neutrons have no charge.

  5. The nucleus  of an atom has equal numbers of protons and neutrons.

  6. The atomic number of an element is the number of protons in its nucleus.

  7. A physical property of a material can be seen or measured without changing the material.

  8. A chemical property of a material describes how it can change into other substances
